Luncheon on the Barge Project
Specially commissioned for Futuresonic Festival 2006
(In conjunction with Interval, Fast and Slow Networks)
Manchester – UK, 2006

This project is an extended version from the Luncheon on the Grass Project (2003), which was initiated by the Bandung Center for New Media Arts at the Babakan Siliwangi City Park (Bandung – Indonesia). As part of public campaign to preserve the park from commercial use by local government & private sector in Bandung, this particular project also being executed as preliminary study for further conversation project development, focusing on the theme of city. For the Luncheon on the Barge Project, Bandung Center for New Media Arts aims to use the barge as a platform where people from different background can meet & share their experience living in the city of Bandung and Manchester, while exploring river/ canals in Manchester. Similar with the previous project, the whole session will be recorded into digital audio, photographs and video, and then broadcasted into wireless network. Informal discussion during the Luncheon on the Barge Project intended to critically confront layers of urban situations in Bandung & Manchester, as part of comparative studies on urbanity and its relation with the development of new technology.
